Big News: Our Family is Embarking on a BIG Adventure

Our family’s first big international trip in 2020 - where it all started!

Have you ever stopped and thought that life is passing you by and you just wish it would slow down a little? Or that you have big exciting ideas you’d like to act on but they just seem…too big or too overwhelming? This big adventure is the result of deciding to finally stop making excuses and to just do the scary things. We are packing up our lives and spending a year (or more) abroad, seeing the world.

Of course, it’s not quite that easy, drastically downsizing and moving our family of 6 out of a stable home to a life on the road. It has been years of dreaming, debating, and talking ourselves out of it that led us here. Our kids were too young, the job was too new, our life here was so wonderful (it really is). The thing is, the more we tried to talk ourselves out of it, the more we realized it was not completely impossible.

We value simplicity, minimalism, adventure and family time, and while embarking on a huge trip doesn’t sound simple, it really can be. While we don’t consider ourselves minimalists per se, we value minimalism and the freedom that it offers. Adventure and family time have always been a part of our story, but the ability to enjoy it has been dwindling with all of the monotony of our daily lives. The driving, the 9pm cereal dinners after a late game, the high-fiving my husband as we pass each other and go in opposite directions. Family time was reduced to Friday night pizza nights if we were lucky and talking in the car on the way to soccer practice. Not really what I’d call ideal.

So here we are. While we don’t know everything that life has in store, we do know we want to be able to share it along the way. I’ll be back here on the blog every now and then with thoughts about our pivot towards forced minimalism, traveling with less, and living in small spaces, but the meat of it all will be on our family blog - 6 Seats to Somewhere - where not only will you hear from me, but the rest of the family as well! So if you are interested in hearing about not only the wins, but the wishes, the hiccups, and the flops along the way, please join us for the ride!
